No one can deny the fact that Twitter is a great marketing tool.

You just need to know how to use it effectively and how to create an attractive profile.

There are many other social bookmarking sites available to drive traffic like Facebook, StumbleUpon, Digg, etc., but it’s pretty hard to beat Twitter.

And since Twitter is so popular, there are many tools available to follow Twitter users with similar interests, omitting users in bulk or automatically sending direct messages to your followers.

Sending a direct message (DM) to followers to submit your blog or your new services is not considered spam as long as you do it correctly and send only useful links.

In addition, Twitter has removed the limit of 280 characters from direct messages. That is to say, there is no character limit for a DM.

I want to share with you a couple of useful Twitter tools for sending automatic direct messages and for sending direct messages in bulk.

Two tools for automated and bulk DM:

1. SocialOomph

SOCIALOOPMH is a tool that will help you to increase your productivity by sending direct automatic messages.

In addition, SocialOomph also allows you to plan tweets, keep track of your keywords, follow the ones that follow you, get new followers, use the buzz and more.

If you want to know more about SocialOomph, check how to automatically follow your Twitter followers!

Here are the steps you need to follow to configure your automated Twitter DM via SocialOomph.

If you haven’t updated your account yet, you should do it here.

Once you’re in the SocialOomph dashboard, click following > Follow-back and Auto-Welcome.

Click on “Configure” to configure your connected profiles.

You can configure the message to be sent.

Here’s what I configured:

Here’s how the results appear. This message was automatically sent to a new follower.

That’s all! From now on, each new follower will get this automated DM preconfigured.

2. CrowdFire

CrowdFire will be interesting to you if you are looking to send automatic welcome messages.

What is good here is that they allow you to add more DM to welcome and all messages will be sent randomly. This is pretty interesting because you don’t want to end up as a robot that sends the same message at all.

In This note, a tip from my side is to make your welcome message look DM as human as possible.

Depending on your brand and the way you’re getting followers, you can always offer a tripwire for your marketing needs.

Important notes on Twitter DM:

  • You can send a private message to anyone who follows you on Twitter.
  • You can answer anyone who sends you a DM, regardless of whether they follow you or not.
  • There is no limit of characters for a Twitter DM.
  • Use Twitter’s DM to create a connection/relationship rather than try to sell something.
  • Try not to send your first DM with a link because it reduces confidence.

To summarize:

Do not try to sell something via automated DM. Always be friendly and connect personally with your followers. (I suggest the same way of engagement with new followers on Facebook too).

Maybe you know of some other Twitter tools that you found useful. If so, please feel free to share them with us in the comments section below.
